Woolworths Metro Mosman Creates Jobs For Local Teens

Finding that first part-time job can be challenging for teenagers, and Woolworths Metro in Mosman is helping to provide local teens with their first taste of employment and responsibility.

The store has proudly welcomed 50 new team members to Metro Mosman, including one-third from the local community. For 20 of these team members, it will be their very first job.

“It was really important to us that we employed locals as a way of supporting the local community,” said store manager, Juliany Wijaya. “It shows when we have a team member who works on service, and customers see a familiar face, greeting them by name while walking in.”

“The local teenagers have settled in so well and have their own special groove in the way they communicate with customers and act with genuine care.”

“I feel they have a sense of purpose in supporting their local community and can see that they thrive off that energy.”

While you may see local teens serving at the checkout, the community plays a vital role in shaping the store’s success. With on average 10,000 customers (and growing) visiting the store each week, the community feedback has been extremely positive.

“Many customers reach out daily to thank the store team and share their experiences,” said Wijaya. “We have customers that know our team members by name already.”

The community can also suggest new products they’d like to see on the shelves using the innovative “Picked by You” QR codes throughout the store. Over 50 new products have been added based on customer requests, ensuring Metro Mosman caters to the community’s preferences.

Time will tell if these preferences include black truffles, but expect to find everything from easy dinner options and freshly made sushi to healthy salads and ready-made meals.

For those in a rush, the store is conveniently split into two sections, with one side serving barista-made coffee alongside fresh fruit and vegetables, and the other with all the groceries, from bread rolls to barbecue chickens, you would expect to find at Woolies. With all the pantry staples you need, it’s not all Camembert and quince paste at Metro Mosman. Although, there is a dedicated cheese fridge if you are on platter duty.

The store has embraced a green philosophy, achieving a 4-star Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia. Embracing sustainability through reusing materials, including recycled brickwork, existing timber, and leadlight windows.

When parking along Military Road isn’t available, the site also has 20 car spaces (including disabled parking) and bike racks. Walking the dog there? You’ll find a dedicated puppy parking area with shade and fresh drinking water to keep your pup safe while you shop.

There’s no denying the store’s impact on the Mosman community, especially for many local teenagers who have gained their first work experience there.
