What’s on at The Northside Produce Market?

The Northside Produce Market is on this Saturday 17 October and every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month in North Sydney. It’s a true local gem with fresh farm produce, gourmet delights, food and coffee and family entertainment. Pop it in the calendar and support this wonderful market on our doorstep.

We absolutely love the local Northside Market which always promises a delicious Saturday morning out. It’s been a tough year for market holders though, between bushfires, droughts and now COVID. So please do come along as often as you can and support our resilient market stall holders. Market Coordinator Lisa MacDonald gave us the rundown on what to expect at the next market…

“Some of you have asked if and when The Vege Box will be returning to Northside Produce Market. I am so happy to tell you that Shane and his exceptional produce will be back at this Saturday’s market. The stall will be filled with Spring produce such as asparagus, cucumber, sugar snaps, snow peas, green beans, zucchini and of course Shane’s signature eggplant and smiling face.

Supernice Kream’s seasonal return is perfect timing as the heat turns up. Julianna is excited to introduce us to her latest flavour, Pink Rock – Salted Peanut Butter with organic Mesquite. A great addition to the delectable Berry, Cacao and Passionfruit flavours of this frozen, nice kream superfood, all made from plants.

The warmer weather brings Currong Comestibles shrubs back as it’s a great time of year to have the Riberry or Rainforest Lime shrub otherwise known as vinegar cordial in a chilled drink. Denyse has a jam and marmalade which incorporates these Australian indigenous fruits.

Mix Masala’s range of Indian curry sauces and chutneys have been so well received by our patrons that Azeema has responded to their requests for eat-in and take out, authentic Indian breakfast and brunch dishes at the market. For those who eat gluten free, Azeema will have her Aloo Paneer Kulcha – a gluten-free, naan bread parcel stuffed with spiced potato and paneer, served with a coriander and mint chutney.

The Gourmet Potato – Kadwell were crowned ‘Overall Producer of the Year’ in this 15th year of the Delicious-Harvey Norman Produce Awards. Grower, Garry Kadwell will be joining Wentworth at the stall early Saturday morning, a rare moment away from the farm in Crookwell, which uses regenerative farming practices.

Recently I visited Orange and it was great to catch up with our stallholders from that area: Zanzie and Fred of Trunkey Creek Bacon, Yuri and son Alex of Produce from Orange and Chris and Rosie of Mayfarm Flowers. Resoundingly they all made reference to their dams being full for the first time in a long time, how tough it had been during the drought and the financial strain it caused. Visiting the farms reminded me we are at the mercy of Mother Nature, and in the city we can become disconnected to the reality of how our food comes to us and the hard work required to do that. We are so fortunate to have Northside Produce Market and its stallholders who are passionate about growing and making such great food. In connecting directly with these producers at the market we, hopefully, have a greater appreciation of our environment and understanding of the effort and what is involved to eat well.
