North Shore residents have always enjoyed an escape to the Southern Highlands, and the onset of COVID-19 has seen an increase in demand for homes in the area. If you’re in the market to make a similar lifestyle change but aren’t seeing enough properties for sale, there’s a buyers’ agent in the Highlands ready to give you access to houses before they hit the internet.
With the recent sudden interstate border closures and ban on international travel, there’s never been a better time to enjoy all that NSW has to offer. And the gorgeous Southern Highlands – just over an hour south-west of Sydney – ranks high on the list of fabulous weekender options. Towns such as Mittagong, Bowral, Moss Vale, Bundanoon, Robertson and the historic town of Berrima are just some of the beautiful locations to explore.
With many North Shore locals re-evaluating their lifestyle choices and how they choose to take a break from the grind of everyday life, agents such as Suzi Bryant (director of buyers’ agent, Highlands Arrivals) have noticed an increase in Mosman residents purchasing (or attempting to purchase) weekender properties in the Highlands.
“Most people say it’s because they are not being able to go on overseas holidays and lockdowns have made them want a place to escape to,” Suzi further explains.
“The Southern Highlands have been very popular because of the climate (we’re five degrees cooler on average than Sydney), the proximity to Sydney, and its picturesque English-style countryside.”
“But more than that, the Highlands have grand old mansions and cute weatherboards through to ultra-modern architecturally designed homes. The focus for people seems to be getting some space, a few acres or 100 acres, and a nice house.”
While house prices in the Highlands are still lower in comparison to Sydney and generally cheaper than the northern coast, the sharp increase in demand due to coronavirus has meant it’s getting harder to find acreage properties. Plus, less people are selling now.
Luckily for North Shore residents, Suzi has long-standing relationships with all of the leading real estate agents across the Highlands, and inside knowledge of when properties might be coming up for sale.
“At the moment it’s hard to find properties as they are selling so quickly, so a big part of what I am doing is accessing properties before they go on the market to give my clients a chance to have a look before the properties reach the internet sites, and beat the rush,” she tells us.
“I always act solely in the interest of my clients. I don’t sell properties, and I don’t accept payments or commission from anyone else so the advice my clients get is completely independent and unbiased.”
