Locals and visitors are spoiled for choice when considering where to head in Mosman for a drink. Whether it’s a quiet and moody setting you’re after or buzzing and booming, Mosman’s bar scene will cater to all needs. Here are some of our favourite venues to visit for a tipple or two!
Juniper Lane, which launched in February last year, is Bistro Mosman‘s bespoke gin and whiskey bar where you can share an intimate drink and bar snacks for small or large groups. Their courtyard is particularly a great option when the weather’s being kind. At the moment, you can also join them every second Sunday from 4-6pm for Sunset Jazz Sessions where the sounds of ‘The Djangologists’ will deliver you velvety ballads and fast-paced melodies. Bookings are recommended.

The Fernery Mosman and their signature cocktails have garnered the bar a fabulous reputation and a mention on our list. These cocktails we speak of are infused with a selection of herbs and edible flowers straight from their rooftop garden. Don’t worry though, lovers of craft spirits are also well taken care of at this establishment with 50 local gins on offer from Aussie distillers. And the wine list is also extensive to cater for all palates. Don’t forget, they also have Jazz Nights on the first Friday of every month from 6-10pm.
The Buena, located adjacent to Juniper Lane, is an iconic landmark on the Lower North Shore offering light-filled spaces and the option to sit outside. But what we love is its leathered sports lounge where you can catch your favourite game while sipping on your drink of choice. It’s the sort of place that can accommodate all sorts of gatherings – corporate functions, catch-ups for an afternoon bevvy, birthdays and more.
We’re quite keen on The Hunter’s perspective on what a bar should be – a community space where locals can come with their friends and family to ‘unwind and share celebrations and stories’. You won’t find a poker machine, pool table or jukebox at this Safari-inspired bar – instead, you’ll be greeted by a team who will share its passion for bespoke wine and craft beef based on your taste. You’ll be asked questions to get a feel for your palate and they’ll take you through their extensive list of drink options (including cocktails and spirits) so you can sip on something you’ll most definitely love!
Affectionately known as ‘The Duck’, Hotel Mosman is the place to go if you want some respite from the relentless hustle-bustle of Military Road. You can sit yourself at either one of its extensive bars: the newly renovated lower level bar looks out on to Boronia House gardens so you’ll get plenty of warm, natural light during the day. Otherwise, head to the venue’s ‘Upper Duck’ or Garden View Terrace which also offers similar views of the enchanting gardens!
Give us a good bar with beach views and we’ll rush right over! That’s why Bathers’ Pavilion has made its rightful way on to our list. The Mosman bar (located inside the iconic restaurant) combines beachside elegance with a 1920s art deco meets Mediterranean charm. Treat yourself to spritz, cocktails or gin bowls at its all-day bistro space overlooking the Balmoral Beach promenade, or enjoy champagne and people-watching at Betel Leaf, which occupies the first floor. Lastly, for drinks with a side of fine dining, you can enjoy the Bathers’ Pavilion Restaurant which in itself is a great example of Aussie coastal dining inspired by our harbour setting.
Public Dining Room offers a luxuriously open and relaxed space overlooking the stunning waters of Balmoral Beach – the perfect setting for a drink. Its Scandinavian inspired look was designed by one of Australia’s most renowned designers, Hecker Guthrie, so you know it’s worth checking out. Plus, it won an accolade for having ‘Australia’s Wine List of the Year 2020’! You can sit at the main a la carte dining room and bar, the private dining room that looks onto the beach or the outdoor terrace that’s best enjoyed on a bright day.

Located right next door to Ormeggio at the Spit, Chiosco by Ormeggio is situated on The Jetty of d’Albora Marina, surrounded by the stunning views of our Middle Harbour. This Italian trattoria is BYO and barefoot-friendly but they’ll keep your thirst at bay with a fine selection of cocktails and vino!
