It’s hard to believe, but the School Holidays are just around the corner! As always, our local area has a multitude of great options to keep the kids entertained and educated. Here we take a look at some fantastic ideas for you to consider – from resilience building to sport, art and music, plus the unveiling of a new water ride at Luna Park, there’s something for everybody!
Balmoral Water Sports
Our watersports camp takes place during the NSW school holidays from December 3rd to January 31st. It is incredibly popular and so we always recommend booking early to avoid any disappointment. Our Watersports Kids Camp is called “Multi-Activity” because we do multiple activities throughout the day/week.
Dates: Sessions run from Monday to Friday until January 31st.
Drop off is between 9:00AM – 9:30AM and Pick up is Between 3:00PM – 3:30PM
Big Music Holiday Rock Camp: Crows Nest
If your child has ever dreamed of being in a rock band, or just really likes music – Big Music in Crows Nest is the place to be these school holidays! Big Music has been running their Holiday Rock Camp program with great success, and all the staff are qualified musicians who are passionate about encouraging a love of music in their students. There’s no musical experience necessary, with a course to suit kids of all ages and any skill level! The emphasis of the camp programs is simply on fun and participation in learning to play popular music with other kids! Good to Know: These popular Holiday Camps cater for all kids aged 5+ regardless of their prior musical experience. Each day runs from 9am to 3pm, culminating in a performance for family and friends on the last day. Places are limited and often sell out, so ROCK ENROL NOW!

Art Attack, Mosman Art Gallery
Mosman Art Gallery’s popular school holiday program, Art Attack, aims to introduce children to a variety of art media in fun and creative ways through investigating and discussing art, demonstrations and hands-on making. Children can let their imaginations run free in the workshops which have all materials supplied and are guided by an experienced artist educator. Children aged 5-8 years will make fun paper puppets during the morning workshop while children aged 9-13 years will create mythical beasts in the afternoon session.

Primrose Park Tennis Camp: Cremorne
Primrose Park Tennis is located on the northern side of Neutral Bay and Cremorne, at historic Primrose Park. Their popular school holiday tennis camps keep kids engaged and active, and they focus on fun as well as skills and drills. Each camp includes coaching, team events, games, and singles and doubles tournaments. There are trophies and sports awards and each child receives a cap. All camps run from 9.30am to 3.00pm each day Monday to Thursday and Friday is a tournament day and finishes at 2pm

Learn to Sail Camps, Middle Harbour Yacht Club: Mosman
MHYC has a proud tradition of developing young sailors, culminating in the success of Nathan Wilmot and Malcolm Page winning Gold in the 470 Mens at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. MHYC is now also the home base for the Australian Sailing Team (AST), with all of the the recent Olympians training and based out of the club. To continue this tradition, MHYC is dedicated to youth sailing through a range of programs and classes. These programs provide a fun environment to sail as well as strong pathways as our juniors develop as sailors. Junior Sailing Program for 8-12 year olds, and Teen Sailing Programs both available.

STEM @ Barry O’Keefe Library
There are three free workshops for young tech enthusiasts in January. On Tuesday 21 January teens aged 12-18 years can blast off with Space in VR for Teens, an exploration of virtual reality technology that allows them to explore planets and moons in 360-degree vision.
Keen young coders and programmers aged 9-12 years have the option of a Coding Workshop where they will explore a variety of science, technology, engineering and maths activities designed to develop coding skills, or a STEM Workshop involving activities ranging from Makey Makey to robotics.

Mosman Martial Arts Academy: Neutral Bay
Has your child ever expressed an interest in Martial Arts? These Action Adventure Holiday Camps are a great place to start! Proud winner of the 2017 North Shore Business Awards for ‘Outstanding Fitness Services’, MMAA offers exciting action-packed Holiday Camps for kids aged 6 and up where children can learn new martial arts skills in a fun and inclusive environment, build confidence and above all have fun! Children will be introduced to Parkour, Jiu-Jitsu, Sumo wrestling, survival skills and more. They will learn awesome kicks, gymnastics and acrobatics moves, make friends and have fun with the multitude of activities and mini Olympic obstacle courses. Action camps are led by famous coach, actor and stuntman William Temm, trained by controversial Hollywood star Steven Seagal as featured in Mosman Daily’s recent cover story. Program is a fun-filled 3-hour action packed session that emphasizes fitness, coordination, body control and athleticism open to all kids, beginner to advanced, aged between 6-15. Non-members are welcome! Please ensure that your child wears comfy clothes (or a martial arts uniform) and brings 2 bottles of water with them, as well as a snack (no nuts please) for a morning tea break. Crafty Author Birthdays, Barry O’Keefe Library
Mosman’s Barry O’Keefe Library has workshops for children to celebrate famous author birthdays and engage them hands-on with some favourite literary classics. On Tuesday 14 January 5-8 year olds can celebrate the birthday of May Gibbs by learning basic modelling skills and making their own Gumnut Babies from clay. On Thursday 16 January 9-12 year olds can celebrate the birthday of author A.A. Milne with quilling, the art of rolling, shaping and gluing paper to create beautiful pictures. On Wednesday 22 January 9-12 year olds can paint the roses red for Lewis Carroll’s birthday by creating card soldiers.

Kids Klub Program, Willoughby Leisure Centre
Pool games, skating, indoor inflatable, laser warriors and more! Kids Klub Willoughby is an absolute favourite amongst parents and kids and is a great way to keep your children active and busy.
Good to Know: The Program runs daily during school holidays and kids can pick and choose which activities appeal. There is usually an organised activity in the morning and supervised pool play in the afternoon (see Program for details). Early bird and sibling rates are available.

Indoor Climbing, Umbrella Nine Co Brookvale
The newest attraction for kids has arrived on the Northern Beaches just in time for school holidays! Umbrella Nine Co is a family focused bouldering gym located in Warringah Mall. “We are keen on getting more kids into the climbing scene and wanted to create a space specifically for them and their families.” There is one main point of difference with this indoor climbing centre – no ropes! “The walls are obviously lower, and they are surrounded by soft padded mats (in case you fall). It’s fun, challenging and empowering. It is super social and best of all anyone can do it.”

The kids don’t have to climb the walls at home these holidays! With the arrival of Australia’s biggest inflatable in Sydney, they’ll be able to run off some energy while having the best bouncy fun around. It’s being held indoors at the ICC in Darling Harbour so the whole family can also beat the heat! Tickets give you unlimited access to both of their epic courses including the brand new giant play park which compliments the huge obstacle course. This course is 270 metres long and has over 30 individual obstacles, all joined to form one continuous course.
