MOSMAN ART WALK brings colour and creativity to our local streets with a fun, accessible and innovative art exhibition and fundraiser Thursday 22 February to Monday 11 March, 2024
The shops and businesses of Mosman once more host the Mosman Art Walk; a unique art trail which runs over 19 days, 22 February to 11 March 2024, showcasing the amazing and varied works of more than 40 acclaimed Australian artists including Ken Done, Ann Cape, Rhett Brewer, Amanda Tye, Alex Thorby and Stephen Coburn, many of them Mosman residents.
Mosman Art Walk was established in 2021 to support local artists, businesses and the talented art students of Mosman High. The public are welcome to stroll Mosman’s shopping precinct to see original artworks displayed in local businesses, from bookshops to jewellery stores, travel agents to optometrists, fashion boutiques to florists.
Ranging across paintings, prints, sculptures and ceramics, all artworks are for sale, with 30 per cent of proceeds donated to support Mosman High School’s acclaimed art program, and 70 per cent going directly to the artist.
The Mosman High Art Committee, organisers of the annual event, would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land, the Borogegal and Cammeraygal, who have practiced their art and culture here for countless generations.
“Our aim when we started in 2021 was to create an event that would not only support our school, but also local businesses and artists, who were severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,” organiser Ann King said. “The Walk has been embraced so whole-heartedly by the local community that it has become an annual cultural highlight, supported by our Gold Sponsor, local firm Kelly+Partners Chartered Accountants, who are passionate about the vital role of arts and culture in enriching communities.
“We love seeing so many people exploring our local village as they follow the Art Walk, enjoying the diverse art on show, from painting to sculptures to ceramics. The event is free but if you like a particular artwork, you can buy it on the spot via QR code at any time.”
Mosman High School principal Susan Wyatt said, “Since it began the Art Walk has become such a popular and successful local event. It’s wonderful to have so many talented artists taking part again this year, and all the Mosman Village retailers who continue to support us. We welcome all the people of Mosman, and from around Sydney, to join us at our art exhibition with a difference.”
Local businesses involved in the walk take great pride in displaying their artworks, carefully curated for their space, and have welcomed new customers as a result. Funds raised in previous Mosman Art Walks have contributed significantly to the creative development of Mosman High’s art students, including inviting influential keynote speakers to the school and supporting immersive art camp experiences that have inspired these talented young artists and resulted in many outstanding works.
Mosman has a strong artistic history, beginning with its First Peoples, and now home to many acclaimed artists and galleries. From the 1890s, Curlew Artists Camp at Sirius Cove hosted artists such as Arthur Streeton and Tom Roberts; the Mosman Art Prize began in 1947, now run by the Mosman Art Gallery which has been a generous supporter of the Mosman Art Walk. The event is also proudly supported by Mosman Council.
