In the heart of Mosman lies a little piece of France that will charm you by the time you’re done saying bonjour.
French born Mosman local Virginie Fontes may have lived in Sydney for 20 years, but she’s an expert when it comes to selecting and sourcing divine French products. Since opening the doors to her Montmartre concept store in 2016 she has gained a loyal local fan base for her French homewares, art, linen, fashion and jewellery. Then in December 2019 she made her success a home run by adding Cafe Montmartre to the lineup. It sits out the back of the store delighting locals with its peaceful courtyard and classic French food.
Gorgeous Products Sourced Direct from France
Travelling back regularly to France (well, at least in pre-Covid times), Fontes sources an elegant mix of vintage and contemporary pieces from art and antiques to the latest trends from Paris.
Montmartre store showcases brands such as Caravane linen and homewares, Maison de Vacances cushions, L’artisan Parfumeur perfumes, Lola James Harper candles and fashion labels like Leon & Harper, Hartford and Feidt jewellery, Swildens, Craie handbags and more. Many of these labels are sourced via exclusive arrangement and cannot be found elsewhere in Sydney or Australia.
Classic French Food at Cafe Montmartre
Out the back of the store, in a lovely rustic courtyard, lies Cafe Montmartre. It’s so peaceful it’s hard to believe you are just metres away from the hustle and bustle of Military Road. Furnished with Fermob bistro chairs and tables (available for sale at the store) paired with party lights and French music, this venue will send you straight to the bistros of Paris. Its simple menu is perfect for both breakfast and brunch and offers French bistro classics such as French onion soup, ratatouille, Croque Monsieur, or pastries and coffee (made with certified organic beans) if you just want to nibble. In the true French style it’s also dog-friendly so don’t be afraid to take your furry friend along for a treat outside.

Aperitifs, Functions and French Lessons
And it’s not just shopping and eating you can enjoy in this versatile venue. The Montmatre team are willing to accept requests for functions – in fact, they’ve even held a wedding there! So enquire about your next party or birthday as it’s a charming venue for a small size gathering.
And French conversation classes are also on the menu, ready to gear up again now that Covid restrictions have eased.
And as a fully licensed venue, Cafe Montmatre will hopefully soon be open again for Aperitif hour and dinners, both of which were hugely popular before Covid restrictions put them temporarily on hold.
We are truly thrilled to have this charming addition to Mosman’s food and retail scene. If you haven’t been to this hidden gem yet, don’t wait too to walk through its doors. It’s likely you will go back home after a visit and put on Emily in Paris on Netflix for more French vibes.
