Embrace the Art of Shopping Local: Mosman Art Walk Returns in 2023

Mosman Art Walk is back on the streets for its third year,
a fun and accessible art exhibition and fundraiser like no other.
Thursday 23 February to Sunday 12 March, 2023

The shops and businesses of Mosman once more host this unique art trail open to everyone, showcasing the amazing and varied works of more than 40 acclaimed Australian artists, including Ken Done, Ann Cape, Rhett Brewer, Ian Grant and Stephen Coburn, many of them Mosman residents.

The Mosman High Art Committee, organisers of this event, would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land, the Borogegal and Cammeraigal, who have practiced their art and culture here for countless generations. Running over 18 days, Mosman Art Walk aims to support local artists, businesses and the talented art students of Mosman High.

The public are welcome to stroll Mosman’s main shopping precinct at any time to see original artworks displayed in local businesses, from bookshops to jewellery stores, travel agents to toy sellers, pharmacies to fashion boutiques, dry cleaners to florists.

All artworks are for sale, with 30 per cent of proceeds donated to support Mosman High School’s excellent art program, and 70 per cent going directly to the artist.

“Our aim in 2021 was to create an event that would not only support our school, but local businesses and artists, who were severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,” organiser Ann King said. “The Art Walk has been embraced so whole-heartedly by the local community that it has become an annual cultural highlight, supported by our Gold Sponsor, local firm Kelly+Partners Chartered Accountants, who are passionate about the vital role of arts and culture in enriching communities.

“We look forward to welcoming people to Mosman again in 2023 to explore our local village as they follow the Art Walk, enjoying all the diverse art on show, from painting to sculptures to ceramics. There is no pressure to buy but if you like what you see, the works can be purchased on the spot via QR code.”

Mosman High School principal Susan Wyatt said, “We are excited that so many of the Mosman Village retailers and exceptional Australian artists have joined us again this year for the third time. We look forward to seeing the people of Mosman, and from all over Sydney, coming to enjoy this fantastic annual art event.”

Local businesses involved in the walk take great pride in displaying their artworks, carefully curated for their space, and have welcomed new customers as a result. Funds raised in previous Mosman Art Walks have contributed significantly to the development of Mosman High’s art students, including inviting influential keynote speakers to the school and contributing to an immersive art camp experience in 2022 that inspired these talented young artists and resulted in many outstanding works.

Mosman has a strong artistic history, beginning with its First Peoples, and now home to many acclaimed artists and galleries. From the 1890s Curlew Artists Camp at Sirius Cove hosted artists such as Arthur Streeton and Tom Roberts; the Mosman Art Prize began in 1947, now run by the Mosman Art Gallery which was established in 1998. The gallery will host the official launch of the 2023 Mosman Art Walk on Monday 27 February, and the walk is proudly supported by Mosman Council.
