Woke Yoga

Woke Yoga is a collaboration between three Mosman locals, Lyndsey Benn, Cora Geroux and Em Cruickshank. “We had all been teaching yoga for a long time around the community” says Cora Geroux – “but we wanted to create a really beautiful, inclusive space that would bring people together. We had this vision of helping people ‘Wake Up’ and knew that yoga and meditation were a vital part of that.” So in 2016, the trio purchased, renovated and rebranded an existing yoga studio on Ourimbah Road. The studio boasts loads of natural light, polished floor boards and has a warm, community feel that can get lost in bigger spaces. “We have an incredible community here. There’s a genuine, non-competitive vibe, that allows new students to explore yoga without all the hang ups of not being flexible enough, or fit enough.” Woke has 28 classes each week, allowing for before or after work sessions, weekends or even mid-morning if you get a cheeky day off. They offer both super slow, mediative yoga called yin, and more dynamic, strength building classes like flow and hatha. “We focus on yoga that can help you get better at life, have more patience with the kids, or how to be more present and focused at work. To us, ‘waking up’ means being clear and resilient internally, and having that inner alignment show up in our outer lives, and that’s teachable.
